How does the Emporia Pro avoid an electrical panel upgrade?
The included Vue 3 monitor measures your home's power use in real time, and PowerSmart automatically lowers the charging rate when other appliances are running. That keeps your total load within your panel's rating, so you may not need a service upgrade.
What is the difference between the Emporia Pro and the Classic?
Both charge at up to 48A. The Pro adds a Vue 3 energy monitor and PowerSmart load management in the box, so it can charge safely on a busy or smaller electrical panel and charge from excess solar.
Do I need an electrician to install an Emporia EV charger?
The NEMA 14-50 plug-in version plugs into an existing 14-50 outlet, so you can set it up yourself if you have one. The hardwired version must be installed by a licensed electrician. You can choose our Hardwire + Professional Installation option (+$699) and we will arrange a licensed local electrician for a standard install.
What is included in the professional installation option?
A licensed local electrician completes a standard hardwired install of your charger. We contact you within 1 business day to confirm your home's setup and schedule. Extra work, like a panel upgrade, a long wire run or permit fees, is quoted before any work starts, and you can cancel the installation for a full refund of the installation fee.
Plug-in or hardwired: which is better?
Hardwired charges at up to 48A (11.5 kW), the fastest option, and suits outdoor installs. The NEMA 14-50 plug-in is limited to 40A (9.6 kW) but is easier if you already have the outlet.
Does the Emporia Pro work with Tesla?
Yes. Choose the NACS (Tesla) connector, or J1772 for most other EVs.
